Diamond Johnson declares for WNBA Draft


Norfolk State guard Diamond Johnson has declared for the WNBA Draft. 

Johnson announced her declaration to take her goal to the professional level in a post to her X account. 

“I am excited to announce that I am declaring for the 2025 WNBA Draft. This decision comes after an incredible journey throughout my collegiate basketball career, where I have not only grown as an athlete but as a person. Thanks to the unwavering support and love from all of you.”

Johnson has had a very decorated college starting at Rutgers, whereas as a freshman she averaged 17.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.3 steals on .512/ .455/.903 splits. She was named to the 2021 BigTen All-Frehmen Team and was an All-Big Ten Second Team Selection. She moved on to NC State for her sophomore campaign and made an immediate impact, averaging 10.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per contest. She was named ACC Sixth Woman of the Year, while also named a Nancy Lieberman Award Top 10 Finalist. Johnson was also featured on late late-season watch list for the Dawn Stanley Award and she was also named to the Preseason WNIT Classic All-Tournament Team Selection. 

Her junior season was another accolade-laden campaign with Johnson not only leading the Wolfpack in scoring and assists, averaging 12.3 points and 3.5 assists. She was named to the All-ACC Second Team as well as to the watchlists for the 2023 Naismith Player of th Year and 2023 Dawn Staley Award. 

Coming to Norfolk State for her senior season, the Philadelphia, PA native averaged 20.6 points and 5.4 rebounds and would claim the MEAC Newcomer of the Year, was named to All-MEAC First Team, and the All-MEAC Defensive Team. Johnson was also a semifinalist for the Becky Hammond Mid-Major Player of the Year, named a BOXTOROW HBCU All-America First Team selection, claimed the BOXTOROW HBCU Impact Award, and was the MEAC Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
